A vineyard wedding, the way you’d plan it for yourself.

Forty acres of working vineyard in the Hunter Valley. A heritage stone barn, three ceremony spaces, and a team who’s been doing this long enough to have thought of everything — before you had to ask.

The property

Forty acres.
One wedding a day.

The Briar Estate was a working cattle property before we planted the first vines in 2002. The sandstone barn was built in 1887 and converted in 2009 — keeping the original ironbark beams, rough plaster walls, and the wooden doors that two hundred people have walked through since.

We host one event per day, always. The property is yours — the roads, the accommodation, the cellar door. Your guests feel it. It shows in the photographs.

Our team

The people who make it happen.

Arabella Thornton

Estate Director & Lead Coordinator

Arabella has been part of The Briar Estate since it opened. She's coordinated 280+ weddings on the property and genuinely believes every one should feel like the first.

James Okafor

Executive Chef

Trained in Sydney and Lyon, James writes seasonal menus that take Hunter Valley produce seriously. Dietary requirements are handled without compromise.

Petra Hawkins

Florals & Styling Lead

Petra works from the estate's cottage cutting garden. Her florals are grown, not imported — which means they look like the landscape, not a florist window.

What couples say

Their day. Their words.

We've been to twenty weddings in the Hunter Valley. None of them looked like ours. The Briar Estate team thought of things we never would have — and did them without being asked.

Sophie & Liam R.

Mosman, NSW

The barn at golden hour is something else. Our photographer said she'd never had a venue give her so much to work with. We're still getting messages about the photos six months later.

Caitlyn M.

Paddington, NSW

We did a weekender with the full buyout. 26 people, three nights, best weekend of our lives. The staff treated every guest like they were the only person there.

Questions

Everything you’ll want to know first.

Do you have exclusive use at the estate?

Yes. All bookings are exclusive — one wedding per day, with private access to your booked spaces. Full estate buyout bookings are exclusive across all three spaces and the accommodation for the entire weekend.

What accommodation is on site?

The estate has four cottages sleeping a total of 22 guests. The main Homestead (sleeps 10), Vineyard Cottage (sleeps 6), and two Garden Suites (sleeping 3 each). Accommodation can be added to any package.

Can we bring our own caterer?

We work with our in-house kitchen for all catering — James and the team build a menu with you during your planning consultations. Outside caterers are not permitted, but all dietary requirements are accommodated.

What months are available for 2026?

We have limited Saturday availability in April, May, October, and November 2026. Friday and Sunday weddings remain available across most months. Contact us for the full availability calendar.

Is the property accessible?

Yes. All ceremony and reception spaces have level access, and the main barn has accessible amenities. We'll discuss specific requirements during your planning consultation.
